Tizenöt évvel ezelött még voltak olyan hangok, melyek arra próbáltak figyelmeztetni minket, hogy a dubtechnora veszélyes egy egész estés bulit szervezni.

Szerencsére nem hallgattunk rájuk, sőt..: kihívásnak vettük és azt gondultuk a stílus megérdemel egy bulisorozatot, még akkor is ha ez kockázatos.

A legendás Lärm és Corvin Club segítségével sikerült olyan világhírű előadókat is elhívnunk, akik produceri és vinyl szettjeikkel pont azt bizonyították, hogy a stílus tévesen helyeződött a chill -out - ambient kategóriába.

Emellett, természetesen az is segített, hogy a hazai előadóink is megjelentek itt- ott vinylen és bandcampen. Évről évre egyre erősebb lett a szándék, hogy megőrizzük Budapest egyetlen - a dubos technóra szakosodott bulisorozatát.

Születésnapi ajándékunk egy igazán esszenciális dubtechno producer és kiadó tulajdonos . Tucatnyi megjelenéssel a háta mögött a stilus igazi ikonjává nőtte ki magát.

FEDERSEN

Federsen, azaz Chris Kelly, több mint egy évtizede építi saját, mélyen atmoszférikus és karakteres világát a dub techno univerzumában. Skóciából származó zenei gyökerei és amerikai kötődése egyaránt fontos részét képezik annak az útnak, amely az acid house és a detroiti techno formáló évein keresztül vezetett a saját stúdióhangzás kialakításáig. Tizenévesként egy Derrick May-féle demókazetta volt az egyik meghatározó élménye — találkozás, amely hosszú távon is meghatározta az elektronikus zene, a szintetizátorok és a stúdiótechnika iránti érdeklődését. Federsen zenei univerzumának középpontjában a mélység, a tér, az analóg melegség, a visszhangok és a hipnotikus groove-ok állnak. Hangzását vintage tape delayek, analóg szintetizátorok, hardveres dobgépek, finoman eltolódó ritmikai rétegek és gondosan felépített effektek alakítják. Zenéje nem a hirtelen csúcspontokra épül: lassan, szinte észrevétlenül változik, miközben a visszhangok, akkordok, mély frekvenciák és apró ritmikai módosulások folyamatos mozgásban tartják a hangképet. Felvételei az elmúlt évek során számos nemzetközileg elismert kiadónál jelentek meg, többek között az Echospace Detroit, Silent Season, Greyscale, ETUI Records, Avant Roots, Lempuyang, Synchrophone, Tiefenrausch, Deeper Meaning és Ranges katalógusaiban. Munkássága következetesen a dub techno, a deep techno és a dubbal áthatott house határterületeit kutatja, miközben egy rendkívül felismerhető saját hangzást alakított ki. (Federsen)

Federsen számára a stúdió nem egyszerűen a zene elkészítésének helyszíne, hanem maga is hangszer. Saját készítésű mintákból, szintetizátorokból, dobgépekből és analóg eszközökből építkezik, majd tape delayeken, reverbeken, phasereken és egyéb effektláncokon keresztül alakítja tovább a hangokat. Ebben a folyamatban a textúra legalább olyan fontos szerepet kap, mint a dallam, az ismétlés pedig nem statikus állapot, hanem a fokozatos átalakulás eszköze. (etui-records.de)

Federsen nemcsak producerként, hanem a dub techno közösség aktív alakítójaként is jelen van. 2024-ben indította el saját kiadóját, az Alt Dub Recordsot, amely az alternatív és kortárs dub különböző formáit helyezi középpontba, különös hangsúllyal a vinyl megjelenésekre és a mély, tágas, analóg hangzásvilágokra. A kiadó azóta többek között Hidden Sequence, cv313 és Fletcher közreműködésével is jelentetett meg anyagokat. (//SNCMAG)

A cv313 / Stephen Hitchell, az Echospace Detroit meghatározó alakjával közösen készített Altering Dimensions projekt újabb fontos állomása Federsen pályájának. Az együttműködésben a detroiti dub techno öröksége találkozik Federsen aprólékos, analóg hangzásközpontú megközelítésével — egy olyan zenei térben, ahol a klasszikus dub techno atmoszférája kortárs stúdiókísérletekkel kapcsolódik össze. 2026-ban Federsen tovább tágítja ezt a hangzásvilágot olyan új megjelenésekkel, mint a Deep Sequence EP, a cv313-val közös Altering Dimensions Part Two, valamint az Estray-jel készített Dubalearic EP. Ezek a munkák egy olyan producer pályáját rajzolják ki, aki továbbra is a dub, a ritmus, a tér és az analóg hangzás lehetőségeit kutatja — nem egy kész receptet ismételve, hanem folyamatosan újabb rétegeket keresve ugyanabban a mély, hipnotikus univerzumban. Fifteen years ago, there were still voices warning us that throwing an all-night party dedicated to dub techno might be a dangerous idea.

Fortunately, we didn’t listen to them. Quite the opposite: we took it as a challenge. We felt that the style deserved an entire night — even an entire series of nights — dedicated to it, even if taking that risk meant going against the odds.

With the help of the now-legendary Lärm and Corvin Club, we were able to bring over some of the world’s most renowned artists, whose production work and vinyl sets proved exactly why dub techno had been so wrongly pigeonholed as merely chill-out or ambient music.

Of course, it also helped that our own local artists were gradually making their mark here and there on vinyl and Bandcamp. Year after year, the determination grew stronger to preserve what had become Budapest’s only dedicated dub techno party series — a space committed to keeping the sound alive, evolving, and heard.

Our birthday present this year is a truly essential dub techno producer and label owner. With dozens of releases to his name, he has grown into a true icon of the genre.

For the first time in Hungary:

Federsen, the alias of Chris Kelly, has spent more than a decade shaping a deeply immersive and distinctly personal vision of dub techno. With roots in Scotland and a long-standing base in the United States, his musical journey began in the formative years of acid house and Detroit techno, when the sounds of the late ’80s opened the door to electronic music and studio experimentation. One of the experiences that left a lasting impression was hearing a Derrick May demo tape as a teenager — an early encounter that would become part of the foundation for his lifelong fascination with synthesis, rhythm and electronic sound. Over the years, Federsen has developed a sound built around deep space, restrained groove, analogue warmth and the endlessly shifting textures of dub. His productions are characterized by vintage tape delays, analogue synthesizers, hardware drum machines, subtle timing variations and carefully layered effects. Rather than relying on obvious peaks and dramatic gestures, his music evolves gradually — allowing echoes, chords, bass frequencies and microscopic rhythmic changes to create an atmosphere that is simultaneously hypnotic, physical and contemplative. Federsen’s relationship with the studio is central to his artistic identity. His approach combines self-created samples, subtractive synthesis, analogue machines and extensive external processing, with tape delays, reverbs, phasers and other effects becoming instruments in their own right. Beyond his own productions, Federsen has also become an active force in the wider dub techno community. In 2024 he launched Alt Dub Records, an imprint dedicated to alternative and contemporary expressions of dub, with a particular focus on vinyl and artists who share an appreciation for deep, spacious and analogue-driven sounds.
