TERENCE BLANCHARD & RAVI COLTRANE | MILES DAVIS & JOHN COLTRANE 100

The year 1926 saw the birth of two towering figures who reshaped the landscape of 20th-century music: Miles Davis and John Coltrane. In this special concert, two of today’s most visionary musicians come together to honor their legacies in a concert that is more than just a centennial tribute, but a living, breathing continuation of their spirit.

Saxophonist Ravi Coltrane has spent his career carving out his own voice while remaining deeply attuned to his father’s innovations in an approach that is both reverent and exploratory. Trumpeter Terence Blanchard brings his deep connection to Miles Davis’s legacy through his own groundbreaking work and his deep study of Davis’s fearless artistry. Together, they lead an ensemble of world-class musicians in a testament to the genre’s endless evolution, drawing inspiration from classic works while creating something unmistakably new.

Together, Blanchard and Coltrane will honor the legacy of Miles and ‘Trane, and their magical five-year partnership in Davis’s “First Great Quintet” that produced his four classic 1956 Prestige releases — Cookin’, Relaxin’, Workin’, and Steamin’ — as well as the late 50s Columbia Records landmarks Milestones and Kind of Blue.

HAROLD LÓPEZ-NUSSA

The Harold López-Nussa Quartet’s Budapest concert promises an experience no discerning jazz listener should miss. Over the past decade, the Cuban piano phenomenon has become one of modern Latin jazz’s most influential voices: his playing is driven by elemental rhythmic energy, remarkable technical assurance, and an unmistakable Caribbean sound.

His latest project, the Harold López-Nussa Quartet, brings a compelling fusion of Cuban traditions, contemporary jazz, and Afro-Caribbean grooves to the stage. The ensemble’s internationally acclaimed musicians create exceptional synergy live: the propulsive rhythm section and López-Nussa’s emotionally charged yet disciplined performance speak simultaneously to listeners drawn to technical sophistication and to those seeking atmosphere and immersion.

The program is built around Nueva Timba, released this September on Blue Note, where modern jazz structures open up the rich and diverse musical heritage of Cuba. Dynamic improvisations, unexpected turns, and a vibrant Latin pulse ensure a truly unforgettable evening.

KRISTÓF BACSÓ TRIAD FEAT. ISTVÁN TÓTH JR.

Kristóf Bacsó, a prominent saxophonist and composer in the Hungarian jazz scene, has been leading his primary experimental workshop, the Kristóf Bacsó Triad, for over a decade. The formation has achieved success at numerous international festivals in recent years with its unique blend of jazz, contemporary music, and the Central-Eastern European sensibility, where composed parts and free improvisation form an organic whole.

Bacsó Kristóf’s partner in the band is drummer Márton Juhász, whose sensitive playing style fundamentally defines the band's rhythmic diversity. His other constant companion is Áron Tálas, whose primary instrument is the piano, but who also approaches the Fender Rhodes and other electronic instruments in a unique way.

The group's latest material, Let It Go, was released in December 2025. A special feature of the album is that one of the finest Hungarian guitarists, István Tóth Jr., is featured as a guest artist, contributing not only on guitar but also on double bass. The audience will be able to hear them in this special lineup at the Jazzfest Budapest concert on June 27th.
