The annual Sakura Festival has been a tradition at the ELTE Botanical Garden for many years, always linked to the blossoming of the Japanese cherry tree, the traditional Japanese holiday of Ohanami. On this occasion, when the Japanese cherry trees blossom in the Botanic Garden, visitors can picnic on a blanket in the garden and enjoy the blossoming of the Sakura trees, as is the Japanese custom.
Japanese culture was presented in many special and interesting ways during the weekend's programmes. In 2025 the programmes will include Japanese language lessons, Japanese music, Japanese martial arts and weapons demonstrations, Go instruction, concerts, a haiku competition, an ikebana exhibition and workshops.
